Syria Now!
New Spirit of old SyriaTreasures of Syrian Folk Music in a new interpretation
Past event
Description
The second evening of Imago Dei’s focus on Syria presents a rousing band that celebrates the cultural heritage of Syrian folk music already in its name: Mesopotamian Fusion.
Mesopotamia, the fertile land of the ancient Orient between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, also corresponds largely to the territory of ancient Assyria (which today comprises northern Iraq, north-western Iran, north-eastern Syria, and south-eastern Turkey).
Drawing from old traditions, but above all from the influences of the cultural, ethnic, and linguistic diversity of this region, something altogether new has emerged in Swedish exile.
The members of Mesopotamian Fusion are of Syrian, Chaldean, and European origin. They have come together to preserve the venerable secular musical traditions of ancient Mesopotamia and to carry them into the present. Their new interpretations include instrumental pieces and folk songs from 400 AD up to the 1990s.
