Description
Miloš Forman's Amadeus was one of the most successful films of the 1980s and won no fewer than eight Oscars. Using the example of the rivalry between the then famous court composer Antonio Salieri and his brilliant fellow musician Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the successful director, who died in 2018, depicts the struggle between bourgeois mediocrity and the divine grace of genius.
Against this backdrop, Miloš Forman unfolds a magnificent costume drama that revels unrestrainedly in decor and colors, but especially in music and song.
Miloš Forman tells his story without regard for historical facts and portrays Mozart as a pop star of the late 18th century, a childish dandy and anarchist who pits his genius against the establishment.
“Thanks to its formal brilliance and excellent entertainment qualities, Amadeus has lost none of its appeal.” (Film-Dienst)
