Metamkine Duo Jérôme Noetinger & Xavier Quérel

Jérôme Noetinger: electro-acoustic apparatus
Xavier Quérel: 16mm-projectors and objects

An impressive improvised firework display by Xavier Quérel will be supported by electro-acoustic musician Jérôme Noetinger with stone-age electronics. The duo produces a new film with each of their performances, which is destroyed in the process.

Both artists run the “Metamkine” record label – the first address for cineastes and musicians with varying members, specialising in experimental music and improvisation, and at the same time a kind of research group exploring the relationship between image and sound. They dive into their machines, open up all parts of their apparatus and fathom variations of tension as in badly oiled gears. Sounds and images are produced with interference, glides and noises from the projectors – rather in the tradition of Musique Concrète, alienating everyday noise recorded on tape by cutting and tempo manipulations. In a time where this is easier done on a laptop, the adherence to old technology appears to be an anachronism. However, insisting on tapes, modulators, analogue synthesisers, contact microphones and amplified objects creates surprisingly fresh and contemporary effects.

Jérôme Noetinger is not only a musician, but also renowned for running the “Metamkine” record label producing a wide array of electro-acoustic and improvised gems as mini-CDs.

Xavier Quérel, likewise “metamkineist”, is responsible for the production of the film image. Each individual image will be edited live on stage.
