With period string instruments and harpsichord, the extraordinary Icelandic ensemble Nordic Affect journeys soundscapes and natural worlds between Baroque, rock, electronics, minimal music, heaven and earth. Their unpredictable tonal landscapes and spherical chords prevail against rain and wind (Valgeir Sigurðsson’s “Raindamage”). They set forth on an inner and outer escape to the subtle nuances of silence (“Shades of Silence” from shooting star in the New Music scene Anna Thorvaldsdóttir). Or they unite multiple voices, when all musicians play as one instrument—as if countless stars form into a celestial spiral (Hildur Guðnadóttir’s “Point of Departure”).
