Music across the borders
Traditional songs and compositions by Beate Wiesinger, Basma Jabr, Golnar Shahyar, Sakina Teyna
Imago Deae (literally “the image of the goddess”) sets a strong festival opener with almost 50 female musicians from different acoustic worlds, who join forces and create something new together. The Syrian, Bosnian, Persian, Kurdish, Croatian, and Sephardic songs of the four solo singers and two choirs together with the compositions of Beate Wiesinger form the basis for new, quite unusual arrangements.
The musicians of the instrumental ensemble make the traditional and specially composed songs shine in the intimate setting of a chamber music sound, but at times also elevate them into a larger, electronic soundscape. The departure point for this evening is the many facets of the music of female musicians living in Austria and the connecting threads between them.
This affiliation will be more than just an approximation: It is a conscious playing towards one another. In constantly alternating instrumentations, guided by the idea of creating a common musical world, this concert fuses apparent contradictions into a harmonious whole.
