With songs from the course of a millennium, Cantando Admont conjures radiant and obscured visions for eternity. When female voices sing melodies from Hildegard of Bingen’s harmonious liturgical symphonies in the Minorite Church, time itself dissolves. Here music that came to the earthly world a thousand years ago sounds just as ecstatic as the more recently composed “From the Visions of Hildegard of Bingen” by Sofia Gubaidulina. 500 years ago the canzones by Monteverdi praised love with their mesmerising vocals. Composer Wolfgang Mitterer passes on a 5000-year-old pyramid dictum from the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead to the Cantando women to take along on their singing way to the sun god Re, accompanying them with an electronic remix of their own Monteverdi singing from before. The Chorus of the Bacchantes, which was not set to music by Monteverdi in his opera “L’Orfeo”, is tapped by Beat Furrer, who transforms the vocals into a Dionysian scream in his “A sei voci”.
