donaufestival at the Klangraum Krems Minorite Church

On two consecutive weekends in late spring the donaufestival (since 2005 under the direction of Tomas Zierhofer-Kin) creates an international platform for new performance art and music in Krems. New forms of theatre, media theatre, film, video, rap, spoken word, hip hop, experimental music, sound art, post rock, electronic, and disc pop are the columns of an outstanding festival model unafraid of the exciting trip into the world of advanced pop and sub culture.
Artists from the most diverse genres confront themselves with the phenomena, strategies, distopias, and utopias of our media and mass society. Be it as “analysts” dealing with the concept of pop culture, be it as “rebels” operating from within the pop context itself—they all share the same method of creating new artistic territories as a basis for their work: territories like strangely generated biotopes switching from one possible medium to the other, and moving from sub culture to high culture, from counter movement to mainstream and back again.
Performance, media theatre and actionist art interweave with advanced forms of music blurring the lines between sitting in a cinema and watching a theatre play, between attending a rock concert and a symphonic orchestra, between taking part in a performance and being in a laboratory to experiment on the future of electronic music…

The cooperation with the Klangraum Krems Minorite Church is an integral part of this border-crossing concept.
