The Master Musicians of Jajouka led by Bachir Attar MaRokko’n’Roll

There’s likely no other band with such a longstanding history: Ever since a goat god called Boujeloud endowed them with the gift of music – as the story goes – the inhabitants of the Moroccan village Jajouka in the southern Rif mountains have been playing the looped melodies of double-reed flutes over polyrhythmic cylindrical drum beats. The Pan cult exists to this day. Beat author William S. Burroughs called the Master Musicians of Jajouka a “4000-year-old rock ’n’ roll band”.
